We use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to collect information about your browsing activities. For full details, please see our separate Cookies Policy.

2.4 Information from Third Parties

We may receive information about you from third-party sources including social media platforms (when you interact with our content or log in via social authentication), analytics providers such as Google Analytics, payment processors, and marketing partners and data vendors.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction requiring a legal basis for processing, we process your personal data under the following bases:

Consent — where you have given clear consent for a specific purpose, such as newsletter subscriptions or marketing communications.

Contract — where processing is necessary to perform a contract with you, such as delivering a paid subscription.

Legal Obligation — where we must process data to comply with Nigerian, EU, or other applicable law.

Legitimate Interests — where processing serves our legitimate business interests, such as improving our Services, preventing fraud, and providing customer support — provided these interests are not overridden by your rights.

You have the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide, operate, and maintain our Services; process transactions and deliver subscriptions; send newsletters, editorial content, and updates you have requested; respond to inquiries, comments, and support requests; personalize content and recommendations based on your interests; analyze usage patterns to improve our content and user experience; detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, and security threats; comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms and Conditions; and send marketing communications (with your consent, where required by law).

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

Service Providers — we share data with trusted third parties who perform services on our behalf, including payment processors, email delivery services, cloud hosting providers, analytics services such as Google Analytics, and customer support platforms.

Business Partners — with your consent, we may share information with editorial partners or advertisers for co-branded content or sponsored research.

Legal Requirements — we may disclose your information if required to do so by law, subpoena, court order, or governmental request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

Business Transfers — in the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Aggregated or Anonymized Data — we may share aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

6. International Data Transfers

Plot Insider is based in Nigeria. If you access our Services from outside Nigeria, please note that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in Nigeria or other countries where our service providers operate.

Where we transfer personal data from the EEA, UK, or other regulated jurisdictions to Nigeria, we implement appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, adequacy decisions where applicable, and additional technical and organizational security measures.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. Specifically we retain account information for as long as your account is active, plus up to seven years after closure for tax and regulatory compliance. Subscription and payment records are kept for seven years in line with Nigerian tax law. Newsletter subscription data is retained until you unsubscribe. Website analytics data is generally retained for up to twenty-six months. Customer support records are retained for up to three years.

When retention periods expire, we securely delete or anonymize your information.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Right to Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. Right to Rectification — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data. Right to Erasure — request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”). Right to Restrict Processing — request that we limit how we use your data. Right to Data Portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format. Right to Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing. Right to Withdraw Consent — withdraw any consent you previously gave. Right to Lodge a Complaint — file a complaint with a supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at legal@plotinsider.com. We will respond within thirty days (or sooner, where required by applicable law). We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

If you are in Nigeria, you may lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). If you are in the EU, you may contact your local data protection authority. If you are in the UK, you may contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

9. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including SSL/TLS encryption for data in transit, encrypted storage for sensitive data, regular security assessments and vulnerability testing, access controls and authentication requirements for our staff, and ongoing staff training on data protection.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is one hundred percent secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

10. Children’s Privacy

Our Services are not directed to individuals under the age of eighteen. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information. If you believe we may have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately at legal@plotinsider.com.

Please note that even if you unsubscribe from marketing communications, we may still send you transactional or administrative messages related to your account or subscription.

13. Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” feature. Our Site currently does not respond to Do Not Track signals because no common industry standard has been adopted. We treat all visitors in accordance with this Privacy Policy regardless of Do Not Track signals.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the revised policy on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date and, where appropriate, sending email notification to registered users. Your continued use of the Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
