REDAN housing delivery: developers’ body calls for stronger partnerships with government and lenders

ENUGU, Sunday, October 11, 2026. REDAN housing delivery depends on stronger partnerships between government, developers, lenders and investors, Oba Akintoye Adeoye, President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), said at a business summit in Enugu.

REDAN housing delivery: what Adeoye said

Adeoye said building more homes was not enough on its own and that developers also needed access to affordable, long-term finance, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.

The REDAN president said the sector needed an environment where investors could operate with confidence and homebuyers could get sustainable mortgages. Adeoye said the industry also needed a predictable and transparent regulatory framework.

“Stronger public-private partnerships, innovative financing mechanisms, improved land administration, sound regulation and professional standards are essential to achieving sustainable housing delivery,” Adeoye said.

The six problems REDAN wants fixed for housing delivery

Adeoye urged stakeholders to work together on six problems holding back REDAN housing delivery goals, NAN reported. The six are affordable housing finance, access to serviced land, infrastructure deficits, regulatory processes, consumer protection and reliable housing data.

Developers who borrow on expensive or short-term terms face higher costs and project delays, Adeoye said, according to Nigeria Housing Market. Adeoye said missing infrastructure forces developers to pay for roads, power, water and drainage themselves, which pushes up prices and lengthens timelines.

Adeoye also said conventional mortgages may not suit buyers with irregular incomes, so alternative financing options were needed, Nigeria Housing Market reported.

REDAN on real estate in the South-East

Adeoye said the South-East had large potential for real estate investment, urban development and economic growth, given the right policies and investment, NAN reported.

The REDAN president said improved infrastructure, new financing models and stronger public-private partnerships could help the region deliver more homes and create jobs.

Adeoye described real estate as a key driver of Nigeria’s economy, saying the sector creates jobs, attracts investment, supports other businesses and builds wealth for communities.
